Maelor Forest Nurseries is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew Henry as its new Nursery Director.

Andrew took up his post on 11th September 2023 and will take over the day-to-day running of the nursery. Andrew brings with him many years of experience working in senior roles across the horticultural industry, most recently as Growing and Fulfilment Director at David Austin Roses.

Andrew has a strong and highly relevant background working within production nurseries growing and supplying plants that ranged from roses and hardy perennials to annuals (supplied bare root or container grown) to B2B and B2C client bases.

Harry Stevens, Group Forestry Director, BSW Group said:

Andrew will be an asset to Maelor Forest Nurseries, and it is a pleasure for me to welcome him on board. His expertise will enable us to provide our customers with even better products and services at what is a most exciting time for both ourselves and the forestry industry in general.

Maelor specialises in supplying home-grown trees with the very best genetics and is continually looking to learn and adapt along with the rest of the forestry industry as the effects of climate change become more evident.

Andrew’s appointment comes at a most optimistic juncture for the forestry industry with the government’s target to plant 30,000 hectares of woodland in the UK by March 2025 following the implementation of the ambitions of the England Tree Action Plan by the Forestry Commission.

Andrew added:

I am delighted to be joining the Maelor team at such a dynamic time in the forestry industry. Maelor Forest Nurseries’ innovative genetics and breeding programme is industry leading.

This will allow Maelor, alongside new production techniques and formats, to supply home-grown high-quality trees ideally suited for the environment they will be planted into, ultimately producing best quality timber.

About Maelor

Maelor Forest Nurseries produces and supplies commercial quantities of bare root trees and shrubs suitable for forestry, hedging and native woodland planting.

Our technical work aims to improve growing conditions on the nursery to produce a better-quality plant and futureproof forests, to ensure that this quality is maintained down the line, from dispatch to planting out and beyond.

Our new miniplug facility helps to secure not only a continuous and steady supply of tree stocks but also improves their quality and resilience to the effects of climate change.
